Brian, from Digital Kitchen, exposed how architecture express the human search for an utopia and how also there are those representations on movies of science fiction and also other genres of movies. He also created a movie specially for F5 as an example of everything he said (which will be available here soon).
Apr/16/09Imaginary Forces
Imginary Forces talk was about what anyone would expect - motion graphics - but they are talking about art and architecture and how they use their techniques to do cross media projects that are completely different from their well known movie titles.
Apr/16/09DVEIN
Dvein is one the coolest studios from Spain, and they are kinda used to do great titles. Nothing better than the full explanation about how they came up with this video (which will be here soon). As they said, the funniest part of working, is when they are not looking at the screen. It actually is when they are putting the hands on real things is when they have fun, and as Fernando and Teo told, is not good to be in fron of the screen the whole day. Too bad the presentation was too short.
Apr/16/091st Ave Machine
The 1st Ave Machine was divided in three parts. Between Matt, Aaron and Asif. All of them did the same steps on the speaking: Background, Influences and Current Works. Aaron also got a cool reference to research: Chris Burden and Crochet. They’ve also brought the machines they built for the last video they are making right now.
Apr/16/09The Blackheart Gang
Cape town, art city in South Africa, and home of The Black Heart Gang, a very enthusiastic group formed 6 years ago, that has lots of influence from the folk art. The first work, the tale of how. using 3D and their illustration background, with a tale written by Marcus, is just breathtaking.
Nice line: “Art x business (if you don’t pay your bills, you won’t actually do your thing)”
Tronic were the first one to get on stage. I’d the pleasure to see them before and this time i tried to focus more on their theory background, instead of just drooling with their awesome graphics. So their concepts based on space, humanity, Experience, perception, technology, knowledge, the basis behind what Tronic, learned when they’ve met in Columbia (NY) were already tried out on their first experiments with motion.
Going forward to WIRED Festival and more, GE experiments about space, with open briefs, children playing with blocks, showing an universal appeal about the possibility to create anything, that adults can identify with.
Their current project for HP Lobby in Palo Alto, with reactive pieces and screens is going to be pretty good. Looking forward to see this project done.

Apr/16/09The Entrance
F5 is warming up as people start filling up the Roseland Ballroom. We’re expecting around 1,000 people. Dvein titles are going to be shown pretty soon. This time I didn’t see it before everyone, so we are all excited to see what this awesome Spanish crew created this time. Always a delightful surprise.
Apr/16/09The Pool Party
Last night, F5 was officially open (at least for those in the Pool Party) at The Grace hotel. Lots of guests and speakers were having the first meeting. Free drinks, good music and a heated swimming pool were already getting everyone excited for this event. * More photos coming soon.
